In contemporary world, we are surrounded by the liberal thoughts. American culture has influenced us all to think, to feel, and to live like the American. We all believe that everyone is unique, and everyone has ability to achieve whatever they want. “Follow your passion” is one of the most well-known phrase around the world, and it inspires us all to believe our heart because it knows what it wants. That is such a great aspiration or inspiration to carry around. People like Steve Jobs and Elon Musk are great role models for all of us because they do what they love, and we want to be like them. However, reality cannot always work like your heart wants.

Some people like to stick to a specific goal, and unfortunately they ignore a wide range of opportunities. Because following your heart makes you feel good, it does not guarantee make you do right. What can lead you to do something right is your brain, because brain contains the ability to think and comprehend the logic of the universe. The brain can measure the challenge and find solutions on how to deal with it. The passion we have sometimes is illogical. For example, thousands of people want to compete in singing contest where the quota of the being a champion has only one. The thing we call passion is sometimes impossible to reach. Without using the brain, we tend to fly further and further in the imagination and forget the ground we are stepping on. Frustration, anxiety, and disappointment are haunting us, and our heart aches whenever we think of what we cannot pursue, like the moon. In contrast, brain knows better because circumstance does not lie. Brain is born to deal with the circumstance, and it reacts quickly to the setback. Just like statistics, brain does not follow what makes it feels good, it goes to the choice that has the highest possibility to be right.

Brain is progressive, and the more you use it, the more flexible it is. It brings us to a whole new level of life where intelligence is the definition of genius. The idea of progressive explains that we all can get to the new level without disrupting or exploiting others. In ancient time, if I am rich, my neighbor must be poor. But in present time, people would laugh at that mindset. Working hard and trying to improve yourself every day are the keys to be successful. The resources are plenty that if we want to have any of it, we do not have to fight or argue with each other. The technology has been widespread and it benefits us all. The problem now is not the matter of availability of resource but the progressive technique to use the best out of the resources. Brain needs to work very hard. But as further as we progress, we lack sense of direction. The life becomes colorless and empathy has no base, because whenever we ask ourselves about the meaning of life, we get no answer. Physical state looks great but mental state falls apart. It is such a bad life to live.

People cannot choose how they were born, but they can choose how to live a life. Balance is the answer. Using heart too much creates blind spot, and using brain too much makes life colorless. We all have to live a life that is different from fantasy, and different from a robot. Life fluctuates and it is the nature of life. But if we can manage to balance in the fluctuation, we can peacefully say we have a good life.
